La libertad es cansada. Jean-Claude Kaufmann es un sociólogo francés, especializado en microsociología de la vida cotidiana, al que sigo desde hace mucho tiempo por sus originales enfoques. Acaba de publicar C’est fatigant, la liberté. Me ha recordado a aquella niña que compungida dice a su maestra: ¿Y entonces hoy también tenemos que hacer lo que queramos? Su tesis es que la pandemia ha provocado en muchas personas una desconexión social de la que no quieren salir. Aparece un ideal de retiro, de encerrarse en la propia concha, de vivir en pijama. Lo interesante es que lo atribuye a que la libertad se ha convertido en un peso, en una carga insoportable de la que la crisis sanitaria nos habría liberado durante un tiempo. Lo que resulta cansado de la libertad es tener que estar tomando continuamente decisiones. Mucha gente estaría dispuesta a prescindir de ciertas libertades a cambio de una vida más tranquila. Eric Fromm habló del “miedo a la libertad” como precursor de la aceptación de los regímenes autoritarios. Espero que el “cansancio de la libertad” no tenga esas consecuencias. Por si acaso, habrá que observarlo con atención.
